Welcome to the website of Trinity Baptist Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania. We are an evangelical congregation of believers in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We love the Bible, the very Word of God and we believe that in an age of superficial religion and man-centered Christianity, the great need of our times is for people to return to the teachings of Scripture. Rather than emphasizing entertainment, psychology, or politics, the church seeks to learn God’s Word in an atmosphere of worship and praise and apply its teaching to our lives. Our desire as a church is solely to glorify God, to enjoy Him, to obey Him, and to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We seek to serve the Lord as a body of believers with varying spiritual gifts and ministries yet in unity and love for one another. Our great work as a church is to proclaim the powerful message of the gospel of Christ.
In a world of moral chaos, social turmoil, and personal disillusionment, the gospel remains the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes in Christ (Romans 1:16).
Trinity Baptist Church began in 1971 when a group of believers from the Lehigh Valley joined together to establish a church committed to the historic Christian faith and the doctrines of grace. Trinity holds to the Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 which articulates some of the distinctives of Particular Baptists. Similar in many ways to the Westminster Confession of the Presbyterians and the Savoy Declaration of the Congregationalists, this confession sets forth the teachings of the reformed faith.
Some of the great beliefs of the faith are:
- The Authority of the Scriptures alone for the faith and practice of the church
- The Sovereignty of God over all creation and history
- The Worship of God in holy wonder and adoration
- The Knowledge of God as the most important pursuit of life
- The Proclamation of the Gospel for the calling of God’s people and the edification of Christ’s church
- Justification by grace alone through faith in Christ alone apart from good works.
But while Trinity Baptist holds to the historic faith of earlier Baptists, we agree wholeheartedly with the words of C. H. Spurgeon, the great British pastor of the 19th century who said when his Metropolitan Tabernacle was first opened in London in 1861: “I would propose that the subject of the ministry in this house as long as this platform shall stand and as long as this house shall be frequented by worshippers, shall be the person of Jesus Christ. I am never ashamed to avow myself a Calvinist; I do not hesitate to take the name of Baptist; but if I am asked what is my creed, I reply, ‘It is Jesus Christ’. My venerated predecessor, Dr. Gill, has left a body of divinity, admirable and excellent in its way; but the body of divinity to which I would pin and bind myself forever, God helping me, is not his system or any other human treatise; but Christ Jesus, who is the sum and substance of the gospel, who is in Himself all theology, the incarnation of every precious truth, the all-glorious personal embodiment of the way, the truth, and the life“.
It is Christ whom we preach, Christ whom we love, and Christ whom we desire to become like in our lives. We invite you to come and worship with us at Trinity Baptist Church. We desire to be a “welcoming congregation”, showing Christ’s love to others as He has welcomed us to the glory of God (Romans 15:7).
